The Old Farmer’s Tells

One of the major issues in agriculture today is the aging population of farmers. Through the personal stories of Laguna farmers Hernando Rivera, Nestorio Inovejas, and Narciso Guerta, this short documentary reveals how this reality is taking shape. Their experiences shed light on the journey of Filipino farmers—from how they started, to what a typical day on the field looks like, and the meaningful moments that bring them pride. Despite ongoing struggles, these farmers continue their work with unwavering resilience. The film also explores how they find joy in small victories, their openness or hesitation toward modern technologies, and their hopes of improving their farms if given proper assistance.

Partners In the Field

This segment presents perspectives from officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Calamba and Sta. Rosa, focusing on the assistance extended to farmers in areas like Brgy. Hornalan and Tagapo, Laguna. Both offices highlight the value of partnerships and welcome collaboration with students, researchers, and volunteers. The segment concludes with a hopeful message for struggling farmers, emphasizing that with the right support, innovation, and collective effort, agriculture remains a promising field.

Sowing Innovation

This segment explores the vital work of the National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory (NPGRL) under the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB), focusing on its core mission to conserve, store, and protect the country’s diverse plant genetic resources. It delves into the types of seeds and plant materials preserved in the facility and how genetic diversity is maintained to support resilient and sustainable agriculture. In addition, the feature showcases IPB’s collaborative projects with students, local farmers, the Department of Agriculture, and local government units. It emphasizes the laboratory’s role in fostering student involvement and building interest in plant breeding and agri-research through hands-on participation and community-driven solutions.
